Indications

Install this update if you want to utilize the crypto hardware on the z990.

Contraindications

This update requires a z990 machine. Do not install on any older model.

Description

This update contains a new openssl package (version 0.9.7c). The new package is not compatible with the original one (version 0.9.6), therefore the original one remains installed. Existing applications will still use the old version. To use the new version the application must be recompiled. The upgraded version can utilize the IBM Cryptographic Accelerator (ICA) in conjunction with the "Optional update for libica-z990" (http://sdb.suse.de/en/psdb/html/dd16403c35ae68b1e45a21a4888f16fb.html).
This update solves the performance problems of the the previous 0.9.7 release which was part of SLES8 Service Pack 3 as an optional package.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh openssl-z990.rpm
