SuSE Linux Connectivity Server
Package: netatalk
Release: 20020517
Obsoletes: none
server. It does also allow successful Mac OS X connects.
You can now connect from MacOS X to your netatalk server.
Important note:
There is one known problem with files that contain special chars, like "Schöne Aussicht.tiff". The ö appears encoded in the Linux ls -l output with the older netatalk versions. Newer versions (1.5.0 and later) use the native charset on Linux and the ls -l output is the same like the Finder output. MacOS X does not show such filenames.
The prefered solution is to rename all affected files on the Linux side:
mv Sch:a9ne Aussicht.tiff Schöne Aussicht.tiff
A tool for automated renames can be found here: /usr/share/doc/packages/netatalk/latinize.pl
Use these steps to start the renaming:
chmod a+rx /usr/share/doc/packages/netatalk/latinize.pl
cd /shared_directory
/usr/share/doc/packages/netatalk/latinize.pl
A workaround to avoid renaming is: Change the settings in /etc/atalk/AppleVolumes.default. There is one line like that:
~ mswindows,codepage:maccode.iso8859-1
Change it to:
~
This will disable codepage mapping.
