Indications

This update should be installed.

Problem description

When restarting the name server daemon using the init script
(/etc/init.d/named), the script did not necessarily wait long enough for the
server being stopped before trying to start it again. In cases where the
shutdown takes some time, for example due to zone files being dumped to disk
first, the script could believe that the server is already running. The symptom
was a "Warning: named already running!" message. As a result, the name server
could have been stopped during the automatic restart that is issued during
package update (for example during installation of a security update). The
problem is fixed with this update. The init script waits until the daemon is
actually stopped before attempting to start it.
