Problem description

The PNG processing library libpng contains a bug in the PNG file handling functions. Due to a miscalculation of the initial offset for a loop a buffer overflow can be triggered. This bug is possibly remote exploitable by opening pictures from untrusted sources like web pages or e-mails.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh libpng.rpm
