SuSE Firewall on CD 2
- Paul Starzetz of iSEC reported a vulnerability in the mremap system call, which allows local attackers to crash the machine, and even to obtain super user privileges under some circumstances. This update fixes the vulnerability.
For more information see the suse-security-announce mailing list, its archive on
or also our security fix summary on
rpm -Uvh fw2_live.rpm
After having installed the RPM you will find a bzip2 compressed ISO image of the new CD in
fwlivecd-2.0.9-1.iso.bz2on your system. Uncompress that file with
bzip2 -d /opt/fas/iso/fwlivecd-2.0.9-1.iso.bz2
and write it onto a fresh CDR using the program of your choice. An example command line for cdrecord may look like this:
cdrecord dev=0,4,0 -v -eject -speed=4 /opt/fas/iso/fwlivecd-2.0.9-1.iso
Please adjust the values for dev and speed according to your system.
The documentation directory
/usr/share/doc/packages/fw2_livecontains a the FWCD-release file as well as file and package lists and documentation of packages used.
