Problem description

A bug with security-implications was found in the DNS resolver library. An application which uses res_search/res_nsearch or res_query/res_nquery may read beyond the end of a too small 'answer' buffer and will trigger a segmentation fault, a DNS decoding error or (not very likely) leak internal program information.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh bind8.rpm bindutil.rpm
If you are running the Bind named, please restart it with
rcnamed restart
after the update.
