Indications

Apply this update if you use syslogd to forward messages to another syslog host.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

When configuring the syslog dÆmon to forward messages to a remote syslog host, DNS problems during system startup could cause syslogd to lock up, and subsequently to stall all applications that are logging messages to the syslog service.
This update makes syslogd more robust with regard to DNS problems.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh syslogd.rpm
