Everyone using the Cyrus IMAP Server should install this security update.

Problem description

A security audit of the Cyrus IMAP server performed by Stefan Esser revealed a remotely exploitable heap overflow. The vulnerability potentially can be abused by an attacker to run untrusted code as the user cyrus-imapd is running as (usually "cyrus".) This update fixes the vulnarbility.
The following bugs also have been found and fixed with this update:
  • Reconstruct was not able to reconstruct mailbox header files if they were completely missing.
  • Fixes for the sieve vacation functionality. Existing sieve scripts must be recompiled when installing this update, e.g. by using the tool masssievec. These commands can be used to do that: find /var/lib/sieve -name "*.bc" | xargs rm -v<br /> su - cyrus -c '/usr/share/doc/packages/cyrus-imapd/tools/masssievec /usr/lib/cyrus/bin/sievec' It is recommended to create a backup of /var/lib/sieve first.
  • Backported from recent Cyrus IMAP server versions:
    • Vacation addresses are now handled case insensitive.
    • Added precedence "junk | bulk | list" handling for vacation

Please install the update provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using these commands:
