Indications

This update should be installed on all systems that have the package mysql installed.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

A signedness bug and incorrect password verification have been fixed in the MySQL server. Only valid MySQL users could exploit these bugs and crash the MySQL server since the bug happens after the authentication. Additionally a buffer overflow in the MySQL client library has been fixed.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh mysql.rpm
