Indications

This kernel update for Linux kernel 2.4.13 is highly recommended to
improve the stability on iSeries.

Problem description

This kernel update improves the stability on iSeries systems. The following problems were fixed:
  • kernel stack corruption
  • time drifts when running ntpd
  • enable autofs
  • improve veth driver
  • update jfs to 1.0.17
  • many small bugs
Changes after update CD1:
  • fix possible filesystem corruption with the ibmsis driver
  • update jfs to 1.0.18

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh kernel-iseries64.rpm
Run mk_initrd to update the ibmsis driver. Run lilo and reboot.
