Everyone using the DHCP relay agent dhcrelay should install this security fix.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

ISC's DHCP relay agent dhcrelay fails to limit the hop count when malicious BOOTP packets were received (see CERT CC Vulnerabilityi Note VU#149953). Also, packets could be looping in some configurations. A patch was added that makes the hop count configurable and limits it to 4 by default, to avoid a possible denial of service attack.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh dhcp-relay.rpm
After installing the update, the DHCP relay agent should be restarted with
rcdhcrelay restart
