Indications

This update should be installed on all systems for security reasons.
This article applies to systems with the k_psmp kernel package installed, please use the appropriate kernel package if you are using a different kernel:

rpm -qf /boot/vmlinuz

Description

This kernel fixes some security vulnerabilities and bugs:
  • fix a possible denial of service attack (DoS) in the routing code
  • fix a possible attack of an unpriviledged user via ioport
  • fix a bad side effects of the initial ptrace security fix
  • fix problem with ECC reporting garbage in /proc/ram
  • allow info about requirement for large LUNs to be passed via kernel parameter
  • fix an SMP crash problem in bonding driver
  • fix invalid ACK handling in tcp_minisocks
  • fix a kernel panic with pptpd when the MSS is larger than the MTU
  • fix a console redirect bug
  • fix an IPC lock race
  • increase SCSI sense buffer to 96 bytes
  • include qla2xxx driver v6.05.60 in addition to older qla drivers
  • fix execve() file read race vulnerability
  • fix several race conditions in procfs

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using these commands:
rpm -Uvh k_psmp.rpm
After installation of the kernel RPM reboot the system with
shutdown -r now
to load the new kernel (replace "now" with the appropriate amount of time to allow local users to cleanly log out, for example "+5" for five minutes.)
