Indications

Everybody using the DHCP server should install this update.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

This update fixes insecure temp file handling by the DHCP server. The dhcp
server used easily guessable filenames when creating a new lease file in the
directory /var/lib/dhcp. Since the directory is owned by the nobody
user, another process running under the same user id could trick the server
(which initially runs as root when starting up) into overwriting arbitrary
files via a symlink attack. This update provides a fix.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh dhcp-server.rpm
To make the change effective, use the command:
rcdhcpd restart
