This driver disk adds support for LSI MegaRAID IDE controllers.

Problem description

LSI MegaRAID contoller are not supported with SLES8 (Service Pack 3).
This update provides the current version of the LSI MegaIDE driver as a
driver image for use during installation.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

In order to install this driver you need to perform the following steps:

First, download the disk image (for the URL please see below) and uncompress the file: bunzip2 -c -d megaide-5.06i-SLES8-SP3.bz2 > megaide-5.06i-SLES8-SP3.floppy This creates the file megaide-5.06i-SLES8-SP3.floppy. Copy the file megaide-5.06i-SLES8-SP3.floppy to a floppy disk: dd if=megaide-5.06i-SLES8-SP3.floppy of=/dev/fd0 bs=8k
- Then you need to boot from the Service Pack 3 CD, just make sure the driver disk is also in the drive; the installer will pick up the driver automatically. When the dialog box confirms the loaded driver you must select to load from CD to have the SP3 update applied before continuing with the installation. You find the ISOs for Service Pack 3 here: UnitedLinux 1.0 x86 Service Pack 3
- if you boot from floppy, just press the <ALT> key when the boot screen is shown. The installer will prompt you for the driver disk later on.
Note: Newer kernels (at least up to 2.4.21-215) don't have this driver included. So don't update the kernel with the YaST Online Update or manually if you want still be able to use the drives or the RAID connected to the LSI MegaIDE controller
