Problem description

This update fixes an old buffer overflow in the resolver functions of glibc.
An attacker can send malformated DNS packets from a DNS server to trigger
the bug in the function getnetbyname(), and getnetbyaddr() to execute arbitrary
code remotely. CAN-2002-0029

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh glibc.rpm glibc-devel.rpm glibc-locale.rpm lsb-runtime.rpm
