Release: 20040114
Obsoletes: none

Indications

Install this update before installing a package with lots of files with the same name, e.g. a kernel-source update.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

This update fixes a problem in RPM that leads to a much too large file index if a package gets installed that contains lots of files with the same name, e.g. a kernel-source update package. An oversized file index dramatically slows down the execution speed of RPM.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using these commands:
rpm -Uvh rpm.rpm rpm --rebuilddb
The script rpmupdate-postscript.sh is only required for the automated update via YOU (it simply runs rpm --rebuilddb as shown above).
