Indications

Everyone using statically linked programs which require Berkeley DB should install this patch and re-link the programs.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

Some programs, especially cyrus imapd, complain about "db3: Unable to allocate memory for the lock table" due to an alignment problem. This patch is required to be able to fix the problem for statically linked programs. Dynamically linked programs just need an updated db package. Please refer to the respective maintenance web article in that case.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh db-devel.rpm
Afterwards, re-link the applications which use the static library.
