Everyone using xchat with a SOCKS5 proxy should install this update.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

A buffer overflow in xchat has been found that can be used by a remote attacker to execute code as the user running xchat. The overflow affects users of SOCKS5 proxies only.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh xchat.rpm
