Problem description

This update provides the GCC version 3.3 to developers using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8. It replaces previously released GCC 3.3 versions for this platform and delivers these key benefits:
  • Significant performance improvement over gcc 3.2 for AMD64. In some cases, greater than 30% performance improvement has been observed on individual benchmarks
  • Improved support of the Medium Memory Model
  • Improved unwind support
  • Various ISVs are using gcc 3.3 for AMD64 on SLES8 in production environments
This compiler version is used as default compiler on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. Please note, that this is an optional package for SLES8 and is "contractually unsupported". SuSE however will make reasonable efforts to provide bug fixes and feature improvements for this compiler version for its SLES8 customers.
