Indications

All systems using xfs (even when disabled) should install this update.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

An integer overflow exists in the X font server (xfs)
which could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands
as root.
Xfs is disabled by default on all SuSE products, but an
update is recommended nevertheless.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fhv XFree86.rpm rpm -Fhv XFree86-devel.rpm rpm -Fhv XFree86-libs.rpm rpm -Fhv XFree86-server.rpm
