Patch: patch-10074
Release: 20050524
Obsoletes: none

Indications

Install this update if you are using Japanese.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

  • This patch removes several wrong glyphs from the kochi-substitute fonts which are the default fonts used for Japanese. It is better to have no glyphs at all at these code points instead of completely wrong glyphs.
  • Many applications (e.g. all GTK2 applications) can then use other fonts as fallback for the missing glyphs. If the glyphs are already there, fallbacks will not be used and the user will see completely wrong characters.
