solutions Security update for Linux kernel (kernel-source) SuSE Linux Maintenance Web (4b3375e6976ada682075767baa2289ec)

Applies to

Product(s): SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for PowerPC

Package: kernel-source
Release: 20030815
Obsoletes: be155be9fd94efb45b3245acd26fd089

Indications

This patch updates your kernel-source package and is only necessary if you compile your own kernel.

Contraindications

None.

Description

This kernel fixes the following vulnerabilities and bugs:
  • fix for an integer signedness bug of the NFSv3 implementation in the function decode_fh() of nfs3xdr.c which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (kernel panic) by sending specially crafted XDR data in an NFSv3 procedure call (CAN-2003-0619)
  • fix for a problem where /proc/iSeries/config remains blank.

Solution

Please note that this update concerns the package kernel-source. It does not directly fix the vulnerability, but it provides the kernel sources for administrators who wish to compile their kernel on their own. The fixed binary kernel RPM packages are contained in different patches.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using these commands:
rpm -Uvh kernel-source.rpm
