Indications

Everyone using the ISC DHCP server should update this package.

Problem description

A format string bug overflow has been discovered in the ISC DHCP server. The code that logs dynamical DNS updates is vulnerable and could allow a remote attacker to run commands with the privileges of dhcpd (which runs as user root by default).

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh dhcp.rpm
After the update the server needs to be restarted with the command
rcdhcpd restart
