Applies to

Package: README-hvsi.txt
Product(s): SUSE CORE 9 for IBM POWER

Release: 20040730
Obsoletes: none

Indications

If your console is a HVSI (serial) terminal, follow these steps to use it
during and after installation.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

HVSI terminals are not autodetected by SLES9 for POWER during installation. To use a HVSI terminal as the console during installation, some manual setup is needed.
Additionaly, the inittab entry is too long. This needs to be corrected manually.
Solution for this problem:
  • At the beginning of the SLES9 installation, at the first yaboot prompt, enter "install console=hvsi0".
  • During installation, configure a network adapter. After installing, use SSH to log in as root and edit /etc/inittab, changing the line beginning with "hvsi0" to read: hvs0:1235:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 hvsi0 vt102
