rsync
is a widely spread protocol to mirror directory hierarchies. An integer signedness bug causes the
rsync
daemon to mistreat data input from the network so that the process can be controlled by the remote user. By consequence, the remote user can trick the rsyncd
process to execute arbitrary commands. This error is particularly dangerous for sites that offer anonymous (non-authorized) rsync
service to the internet. There is no temporary workaround against this problem other than this package update. Since
rsyncd
is usually started from inetd/xinetd
, new instances of the daemon are lauched upon request. Therefore, it should not be necessary to kill all running instances of rsyncd
after installation of the patch.
rpm -Uvh rsync.rpm
