This driver update disk adds support for the Broadcom 5721 chipset.



Problem description

Broadcom driver doesn't detect a NIC on some newer bcm57xx chipsets.


Please install the driver update disk provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

In order to install this driver you need to perform the following steps:
  1. First, download the disk image (for the URL please see below) Copy the file bcm5700-7.3.5-SLES8-SP3.floppy to a floppy disk: dd if=bcm5700-7.3.5-SLES8-SP3.floppy of=/dev/fd0 bs=8k
  2. For installation follow the appropriate step depending on your boot media:
    • If you boot the system from CD, you only have to insert the driver disk; the installer will pick up the updated driver automatically.
    • If you boot from a floppy disk, press <ALT> when the boot screen is shown. The installer will prompt you for the driver disk later on.
