Problem description

A programming error causes the proftpd process to die upon execution of
"ls ///". Since the dying process does not handle the incoming
connections, the crash is noticeable for the connected client only. New
connections are handled by the proftpd parent process. It is unclear yet
if this error can be exploited to remotely execute user-provided code.
However, the fix in the form of this update package resolves the problem
completely.
