Problem description

This kernel update improves the stability on iSeries systems.
The following problems/bugs were fixed:
  • kernel stack corruption
  • time drifts when running ntpd
  • enable autofs
  • improve veth
  • support for nvram modification
  • update JFS to 1.0.17

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

The kernel update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using these commands:
rpm -Uvh kernel-ppc64.rpm mk_initrd lilo
(running mk_initrd is necessary to include the new ibmsis driver module in the updated system.) After these commands have completed succesfully, reboot your machine:
shutdown -r now
