Indications

Problem description

mm/libmm is a shared library that provides an easy API for shared memory operations and inter process communication (SYSV-IPC). The file under /tmp that libmm uses to communicate over is being created insecurely, leading the process using libmm to a security problem with overwriting files owned by the user running the the process. In particular, this weakness enables an attacker who has already obtained the userID wwwrun (the user that the apache webserver runs as) to gain local root privileges.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh mm.rpm
After performing the upgrade, you should
  1. run the command "ldconfig" as root
  2. restart the apache webserver: "rcapache restart".
