Problem description

A buffer overflow related to progressive image loading has been found in libpng, the library used for displaying PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format images. Since libpng is used by many applications that process images, the security implications of this bug are widespread so that this update should be installed.
It is yet unknown if the bug can be exploited to execute arbitrary commands as the user running the application that displays graphics. A possible exploit scenario consists of a specially crafted PNG image that would be downloaded by the victim with a web browser.
