Package: nfs-utils
Release: 20030825
Obsoletes: none

Indications

Install this update if you export data via the kernel NFS daemon.

Problem description

When mixing hostnames, addresses and wildcards in /etc/exports, the kernel's export list would sometimes ignore valid export entries, and refuse access to valid clients.

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Fvh nfs-utils.rpm
After applying the update, you should either
  • call an rcnfsserver restart. This has the drawback that the kernel will forget about all exports expanded from a wildcard entry, and may require rebooting clients as well.
or
  • restart mountd manually and refreshing the kernel's export table by using killall -TERM rpc.mountd /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd exportfs -vr
