Indications

This update should be installed if you want to compile your own ppc64 kernel for iSeries or pSeries.

Contraindications

None.

Problem description

This update contains the sources for the updates kernel ppc64 for iSeries and pSeries.
You will need this package if you want to compile your own kernel or to compile additional kernel modules.
The following notable problems and bugs were fixed:
  • security issues regarding zlib, synack and ptrace
  • kernel stack corruption
  • time drifts when running ntpd
  • veth memory leak
  • wrong initial date
  • autofs broken of ppc64
The following enhancements were added:
  • update JFS to 1.0.17
  • improve the HVC console on p690 regatta systems
  • SYSREQ support for vterm (^o x)
  • support for nvram modification
  • support for /proc/ppc64/naca and paca interfaces

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh kernel-source.rpm
