solutions Recommended update for package iproute2 SuSE Linux Maintenance Web (038be87b738629f9e4a98271957d0ea1)

Applies to

Product(s): SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 for IBM iSeries and IBM pSeries

Package: iproute2
Release: 20030218
Obsoletes: none

Indications

Installations where the IP fragmentation timeout should be configurable per IP route need this patch.

Contraindications

None.

Description

This patch adds an option to control the IP fragment timeout for a given network route. This should improve the reliability for NFS over UDP on high bandwidth connections, such as Gigabit Ethernet.
The following example shows how to change this value on device eth16:
ip route replace 10.10.0.0/16 dev eth16 fragtimeout 10
The command
ip route show
displays the current routing table with fragtimeout only be shown if it was explicitly set before.
The Linux default fragment timeout is 30 seconds, which can be
changed globally by writing the appropriate amount of seconds to
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ipfrag_time, i.e.:
echo '20' >/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ipfrag_time

Installation notes

This update is provided as an RPM package that can easily be installed onto a running system by using this command:
rpm -Uvh iproute2.rpm
