symptom

Novell Certificate Server plugins fail in iManager.

cause

eDirectory 8.5 installed the following files to the system32 directory on Microsoft Windows NT and 2000:
- ldapssl.dl, ldapsdk.dll, ldapx.dll and sal.dll. eDirectory 8.6 and eDirectory 8.7 install these files in the \tomcat\webapps\WEB-INF\bin directory. During the installation of eDirectory 8.7, the \tomcat\webapps\WEB0INF\bin directory is added to the path environment variable. By default, Windows will look for support dlls from the directory where the app started (in this case wherever java.exe is located), then in \Windows\system32, then in \Windows, then in the search path. Since the older files are in the system32 directory because of the eDirectory 8.5 install, these files are found before the files in the search path. The older files do not support the new features in the Certificate Server plugins.

fix

eDirectory 8.5 is no longer a fully supported product. It has been placed on the end of life cycle by Novell. (For more information on the end of life cycle, go to the following url: Novell's Product Life Cycle. For this reason, it is the recommendation from Novell that you run iManager from a server that is running eDirectory 8.6 or greater. If you still want to run iManager from a box running eDirectory 8.5, you must copy the following files from the \tomcat\webapps\WEB0INF\bin directory to the %SystemRoot%\System32 directory:

ldapssl.dl, ldapsdk.dll, ldapx.dll and sal.dll

NOTE: The newer versions of these files have NOT been tested against eDirectory 8.5. For this reason, although they should be backwards compatible, they can not be fully supported by Novell in this scenario.
