fact
Novell eDirectory 8.7 for All Platforms
symptom
An ndsrepair "reclaim free space" will not complete.
ERROR: "Unable to reclaim unused space in DIB. -6036"
An ndsrepair structure and index check completes fine.
An ndsrepair rebuild database does not fix the problem.
cause
DIB corruption, orphaned flaim block
fix
The DIB needs to be physically rebuild, block by block.
This is done by selected "Rebuild entire database" and then deselecting "Perform database structure and index check". On UNIX, the ndsrepair commands are:
ndsrepair -R -l no -u no -m no -i no -f no -d yes -t no -o no -r no -v no -c no
You can then reclaim free space with these options:
ndsrepair -R -l no -u no -m no -i no -f yes -d no -t no -o no -r no -v no -c no

note
When dsrepair runs a reclaim free space, it checks the DIB database block by block. If it encounters a corrupted block, it intentionally aborts.
