eDirectory 8.7 installation on Windows aborts at the end of the GUI install.
Can't install eDirectory from a Terminal Session
Error: "Fatal: The eDirectory installation has terminated abnormally."
GUI file copy gets to 100% and then aborts with a fatal error message.
The server object is inserted into the tree
Other servers in the tree are able to communicate and synchronize with the server
cause
eDirectory 8.7 was not installed at the physical server console. A remote desktop utility was used such as WindowsXP's "Remote Desktop Connection" or a terminal server connection. Microsoft says that this should be fixed in Windows Server 2003 by allowing RDP connections to control console 0 - i.e. the real server interactive desktop rather than a virtualized one
fix
Restart the installation of eDirectory making sure that you are physically at the server console or connect remotely to a Windows Server 2000 or 2003 via a RDP connection to control console 0 (i.e. mstsc /console /v:<servername[:port]>) or use another method to remote control the server (ZENworks for Servers remote control session or VNC).

NI.LOG file reports the following error:
Fatal: The core DS component of eDirectory was successfully installed, but the installation cannot communicate with it, which is necessary to complete the installation of the remaining eDirectory components.
Please try reinstalling the product. The C:\Program Files\Common Files\Novell\ni\data\nioutput.txt file will show more details about the problem area. If the problem persists, please contact Novell Support.
The eDirectory installation will now be terminated.
