symptom

Error adding "houseIdentifier" schema attribute during eDirectory 8.7 install

Installation will continue without errors

Schema synchronization is clean after the install completes

cause

Schema preparations were not made before installing the first eDirectory 8.7 server into the tree

fix

Part of the preparation process for installing the first eDirectory 8.7 server into an existing tree is to prepare the schema.  If this is not done, the installation will try to do it for you.  It is possible that the schema will still need to be updated after the install has completed.  If the above error occurs, do the following after the install completes on a server that holds a copy of the Root partition AND also has eDirectory 8.7 installed.

1.  Load DSREPAIR
2.  Advanced Options
3.  Global Schema Enhancements
4.  Authenticate as admin or equivalent
5.  Run Post NetWare 5 Schema update

The log file should mention something about modifying the houseIdentifier attribute.  Run the update once more just to make sure that no other modifications are made.  You may also want to run the Optional Schema Enhancements.  If the log file shows up clean, then all schema modifications have been made and nothing else is required.
