symptom

Error: The page cannot be found when going to iManager

cause

The installation of iManager will look for a web server (IIS or Apache) and a servlet engine (Tomcat) on the system.  If it does not find one, the install will install and configure these components automatically.  Tomcat must be configured to work with the web server.  If there are several web server ports (virtual sites) on the same machine, the iManager install will take the first one in the list and configure Tomcat to run against that site.  This can be an issue if the administrator wants to run iManager from a virtual site rather than from the default site.

fix

The only way to resolve this issue is to configure Tomcat to the desired virtual site before installing iManager.  The iManager install will then discover Tomcat and will install iManager into the desired site.  Tomcat is not a Novell product and does not own the documentation or support for Tomcat.   When Tomcat is installed, the following document is also installed:

Step # 2 in this document under the heading of "Configuring the ISAPI Redirector" gives instructions on how to install Tomcat into a virtual directory.

Below is listed the steps in this document.  Be aware that these steps are suggestions only.  They may change as Tomcat changes.  To get the most information about Tomcat, please go to the http://www.apache.org web site.

Using the IAIS management console, add a new virtual directory to your IIS/PWS web site.  The name of the virtual directory must be jakarta.  Its physical path should be the directory where you placed ISAPI_REDIRECT.DLL (for example it is c:\jakarta-tomcat\bin\native).  While creating this new virtual directory assign it with execute access."

Instructions on how to make the above change:
From the IIS management facility:
in the management window, expand IIS, select the web site, right mouse click and select "create a virtual directory".  Provide the necessary info (the ISAPI_REDIRECT.DLL is in <TOMCAT_HOME>\bin\win32\i386).  By default, the TOMCAT_HOME directory would be c:\Program Files\Novell\Tomcat.  Also, rename or delete the jakarta virtual directory created by the installer.  To do this, go through the virtual web sites, look for a virtual directory called jakarta and delete or rename it.
