symptom

After running nds-install, eDirectory does not upgrade.

ERROR: "%% An older version of the product is detected, which cannot be upgraded."

ERROR: "%% Please uninstall all the components and then install this product."

cause

The nds-install that shipped with eDirectory 8.6.1 CD does not check for patched versions eDirectory 8.5.x

fix

There are two options:
1. Download the web version of Novell eDirectory 8.6.1 to upgrade existing eDirectory 8.5.x servers on UNIX platforms.

2. Replace the nds-install script on the eDirectroy 8.6.1 CD with an updated nds-install script.
