(Last modified: 16OCT2003)
When I click on a mailto: link (or email address) in my web browser, I would like Evolution to come up, but it doesn't. How do I make this happen? |

When you click on a mailto: link the gnome URL handler is called to decide what to do with the link. You can set the handler with the GNOME control center evolution "%s"in to the Program field Click on [OK] to accept the changes If you are running Ximian GNOME 1.4: Selecet System -> Settings Choose Advanced > URL Handlers. If you do not have Advanced on the left hand side you need to install control-center-plus from Red Carpet. If you see a mailtohandler already defined select it from the list. If not, type mailto(without quotes) in the upper left text box. Enter evolution "%s"into the "handler:" text box Click [ Set ] to accept the changes Click [ OK ] If you are running your distribution's GNOME 2.2 based desktop: Open a terminal window Run the command
$ gnome-file-types-properties
In the Settings window that pops up, double click on File Associations Choose Internet Services > Unknown service types Click on [Edit] Enter evolution "%s"in to the Program field Click on [OK] to accept the changes Mozilla: Mozilla does not support external mail clients. Netscape includes a mail client, and more or less expects you to use it. However, there is a workaround in the form of a program called "Muttzilla." You can find information about it at
sourceforge.net/projects/muttzilla. This project appears to be out of date. evolution mailto:%tinto the "Use a different email client" box. There are also options for subject: %s; CC: %c; BCC: %b; Template body text: %B; and Attachment: %A. Opera: In Opera select File -> Preferences Go to the "Applications" category Enter into the "E-mail Client" box the line: evolution mailto:[%t]?cc=[%c]&subject=[%s]&body=[%b] |
