symptom

Constraint Violation occurred when attempting to synchronize user object.

<client-err ldap-rc="19" ldap-rc-name="LDAP_CONSTRAINT_VIOLATION">Constraint Violation</client-err>

Failed to synchronize user object from eDirectory to Active Directory.

change

This problem occurred when migrating existing users from eDirectory to Active Directory.

cause

The user object being synchronized had a multi-valued 'Title' attribute. Active Directory's 'title' attribute is not multi-valued.

fix

This was fixed by doing either of the following:

  • Remove additional attribute values in eDirectory so that is single-valued.
  • Create a policy that concatenates the attribute values together so that it is a single value in Active Directory.
