--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This article explains how to determine whether the ZENworks Patch Management Update Server requires a proxy connection to the Novell Subscription Server and how to properly establish a proxy connection to the Internet.

Determine whether Proxy Connection is Required
1. Launch Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings.

2. Ensure that the Use a proxy server for your LAN option is deselected.

3. Browse to a Web site such as http://www.Novell.com.

If the page loads without error, you do not need a proxy connection to communicate with the PatchLink Subscription Server.

If you receive a "page cannot be displayed" error, you need to establish proxy communication following the instructions below.

Setup Proxy Communication
Ask your proxy administrator for the proxy server name and port number then make the following changes:

Internet Explorer

1. Launch Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > LAN Settings.

2. Ensure that the Use a proxy server for your LAN option is selected.

3. Enter the <server name>.<domain> in the Address field.

4. Enter the port number in the Port field.

5. Click OK.

6. Click OK in the Internet Options dialog.

Windows Registry WinHttpSettings

1. From a command prompt, cd to C:\Program Files\Patchlink\Update Server\Bin.

2. Type proxycfg.

3. Press ENTER.

NOTE: Use the syntax proxycfg ? to view command options.

4. If no proxy server is in use or an incorrect server address is used, type proxycfg -p <server name>.<domain>:<port number> to set the correct proxy address and port. Following the example above, you would type proxycfg -p proxy.patch.com:8080.

5. Press ENTER.

ZENworks Patch Management Update Server Web Interface
1. On the Options > Subscription tab of the PatchLink Update Server Web interface, enter the proxy server URL in the Proxy Host field in the format http://<server name>.<domain>:<port number>. For example, http://proxy.patch.com:8080.

2. Click Save.

3. Re-Register the Subscription Agent so it picks up the new proxy settings:

ZENworks Patch Management Update Server 6.0.2.89 and 6.0.2.97 on Windows 2000
The Client Agent on ZENworks Patch Management Update Server 6.0.2.89 and 6.0.2.97 on Windows 2000 requires the import of a registry key in order to operate with the above changes. WinInet.zip contains a registry import file that will import the following key and value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PatchLink.com\Gravitix\Agent\Policy\
"UseWinInet"="Y"
This entry forces the Client Agent to communicate with the local PatchLink Update Server via WinInet rather than WinHTTP.

To import the registry key:

1. Download WinInet.zip to your PatchLink Update Server.

2. Extract the contents, WinInet.reg.

3. Double-click on WinInet.reg.

4. Launch Windows Registry.

5. Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PatchLink.com\Gravitix\Agent\Policy and verify that the UseWinInet=Y value was imported.
