fact
Open Enterprise Server for Linux (OES Linux)
NSS on a single system drive
symptom
"Error: CIMOM error occurred: cannot write to the given file." while creating NSS Pools in iManager.
Error while creating NSS Pools in NSSMU: Write Error zERR_USER_ABORTED(20017)
Unable to create NSS Pools
cause
EVMS is not configured on the drive
fix
The system drive must be configured to use EVMS during the install. It can also be configured after install.
Steps are listed in the OES Linux Documentation
cause
Boot Loader is incorrectly configured
fix
Make sure the bootloader is pointed to the correct path. It should be /dev/evms/lvm/<container>/<volume_name>
Example (from /boot/grub/menu.lst):
title Linux
kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz root=/dev/evms/lvm/system/rootlv vga=0x332 selinux=0 splash=silent resume=/dev/evms/lvm/system/swaplv elevator=cfq showopts
initrd (hd0,0)/initr
note
It is highly recommended to use a hard drive for boot and root that is separate from that which will contain the NSS volume!
If you plan to create NSS volumes on the same device where you install the Linux operating system, swap volume, or boot drive, you must modify the install procedure so that EVMS is the device manager of these system-related devices, and not accept the default use of LVM to manage them.
