symptom
IDM Drivers on Linux Stop Processing
Drivers stop processing events once or twice per day
Very few symptoms
There are no specific errors in DStrace. Very few events begin to be processed by the engine and none are completely processed. There is indeed some activity in the trace, like polling for a JDBC driver or caching of events in the tao files (if the trace is set to a high enough level). One of the characteristics of the error is that you see no status messages (Like Status: success or Status: error).
The *.tao files, used by the engine to cache events that haven't been processed yet, begin to grow in size. When the ndsd process is restarted, the cached events normally get processed.
cause
Insufficient memory in the server
fix
Upgraded server memory from 1Gb to 2Gb
note
Tried a number of diagnostics:
- Increased cache available to eDirectory
- Increased cache available to JVM
- dxcmd hangs when it is run (to check cache)
- Stopped each driver individually to see which one caused the rest to hang
- DSTrace shows events stop but items being added to the cache
