goal

DBNET fails to load with Intel iANS Teaming NIC

fact

Novell NetWare 6

Novell NetWare 5.1

Novell NetWare 4.2

DBNET6.NLM

DBNET5.NLM

symptom

DBNET fails to load with Intel iANS Teaming NIC

DBNET5 does not load successfully with Intel iANS Teaming NIC

fact

Module IANS.LAN NOT loaded

DBNET: Loader cannot find public symbol: DB_NWNumberOfRegisteredProcessors

DBNET: Loader cannot find public symbol: DB_LSLRegisterStackSMPSafe

DBNET: Loader cannot find public symbol: DB_LSLDeRegisterStackSMPSafe

DBNET: Loader cannot find public symbol: DB_RegisterConsumer

DBNET: Loader cannot find public symbol: DB_UnRegisterConsumer

DBNET: Load file referenced undefined public variable

cause

Intel iANS Teaming NIC driver does not provide support for DBNETx

fix

Create or modify the DBNET.CFG file to reference the real NIC driver that was loaded before the Teaming NIC driver.

Example:
- Server has two PRO/100 or two PRO/1000 NICs installed and drivers loaded
- Teaming NIC driver is loaded and configured to provide LAN support

Edit the [dbmlid] line in C:\NWSERVER\DBNET.CFG to reference the PRO/100 or PRO/1000 driver and not the TEAM driver

[dbmlid]
mlid=CE100B.LAN NAME=CE100B_1_EII FRAME=ETHERNET_II SLOT=101

OR

mlid=CE1000.LAN NAME=CE1000_1_EII FRAME=ETHERNET_II SLOT=101

Use the appropriate settings for your NIC.

note

For help with manually configuring the DBNET.CFG file see solution 10066246 for NetWare 6, 10058901 for NetWare 5.1, and 10058912 for NetWare 4.2.
