Novell NetWare 4.11

Novell NetWare 4.x

SGUID.NLM

symptom

Error "Check GUID status failed" when loading DS.NLM

Check GUID status failed. -603

The database opens just fine

note

Actual error message:

cause

Starting with DS.NLM version 6.19 and greater for NetWare 4.x, it is dependant on a GUID generator called SGUID.NLM.  SGUID.NLM is dependant on two schema attribute definitions that must be in schema for it to function correctly.   The two schema attribute definitions are "GUID" and "Other GUID".  If SGUID doesn't see BOTH of these attribute definitions in schema, it will produce the "Check GUID status failed" error message.

These new NLM's are available for public download in DS621.EXE from http://support.novell.com/filefinder.  They should also be available in the NetWare Deployment Manager that ships with NetWare 6.5.

fix

"GUID" and "Other GUID" need to be added to schema.  Having a NetWare 6.x server in the tree should do this.  You can also use DSREPAIR.NLM version 4.73 or greater for NetWare 4.x and run Advanced Options | Global Schema Operations | Post NetWare 5 Schema Update.  Once "GUID" and "Other GUID" are in schema, you should get something similar to what is shown below instead.  Although the actually partition name will not be listed, you should see a partition ID listed for each partition the server holds.
