Orphaned INHIBIT_MOVE Obituary

INHIBIT_MOVE obituary shows up in the destination partition on the NDS object that was moved with a flag state of 0000

There is no MOVED obituary in the source partition where the object was moved from.

There are no Directory Services synchronization issues

DSREPAIR -OT has no effect on INHIBIT_MOVE obituaries

cause

Due to some type of breakdown in the obituary processing system either due to a server crashing or other communication problems, the MOVED obituary has either already processed or does not exist leaving the INHIBIT_MOVE obituary unprocessed.  By design, the INHIBIT_MOVE obituary will process along with the MOVED obituary.  Once the MOVED obituary has processed to a flag state of 0002, the INHIBIT_MOVE obituary will begin to process.

fix

Verify which servers list the obituary by running DSREPAIR -A | Advanced Options | Check External References on ALL servers in both the source partition and the destination partition to verify that there are no inconsistencies.  If the source partition is not known, you will need to verify all servers in the entire tree.

In some cases, the Master replica of the source partition may not list the obituary, but a R/W replica of the same partition will list the obituary.  In that case, change the R/W replica, which lists the obituary to be the Master (you will have to use DSREPAIR | Advanced Options | Replica and Partition operations | Choose the Partition | Designate this server as the new Master replica in order to change the Master) and then use the procedures found in NOVL46849   - Processing stuck obituaries on All DS versions to force the obituary to process.

If the MOVED obituary is not found, check all replicas in the destination partition for the INHIBIT_MOVE obituary.  If there is at least one R/W that does not show the INHIBIT_MOVE obituary, load DSREPAIR on the R/W replica server and change that server to be the Master replica using DSREPAIR | Advanced Options | Replica and Partition operations | Choose the Partition | Designate this server as the new Master replica.  Once that server is the Master, use NDS Manager or ConsoleOne to remove the any other R/W replicas that have the obituary and then re-add the replica.  It will will receive a new copy from the Master, which should be clean.

If all replicas in the destination partition show the INHIBIT_MOVE obituary and no move, then follow TID 10082137.  If you are still unable to clear the obituary then your only option at that point is to call Novell Technical Support to arrange for a technican to dial in and manually process the obituary.
