goal

This document details how to disable the different fields on the Novell Client Login screen for Windows NT, 2000, and XP.

fact

note

These fields can be disabled by creating registry key/values under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings" registry key. This key does not normally exist and must be created manually. The list below groups the different registry key/values by the GUI Login tab they appear on. To disable the field on the GUI login, create the appropriate registry key and put a "1" in the value (the client works with zero and non-zero, so technically any non-zero number will do). The disabled field will still appear on the GUI Login and the user will be able to read the information in the field, but it will be greyed out and the user will not be able to change any of the information stored in the field.

Credentials Settings:

Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\Credentials

Values:
[DWORD] DisableUsername
[DWORD] DisablePassword

Bindery Settings:

NOTE: This option is only available when the client Location Profile has marked Bindery as the "Active Authenticator" (and so disabled NDS as the default "Active Authenticator", since these settings are mutually exclusive). Typically the user will never see the Bindery tab and so these settings will not normally make a difference to the user.

Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\Bindery

Values:
[DWORD] DisableServer
[DWORD] DisableServerBrowse
[DWORD] DisableClearConnections

NDS Settings:

Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\NDS

Values:
[DWORD]DisableTree
[DWORD] DisableTreeBrowse
[DWORD] DisableContext
[DWORD] DisableContextBrowse
[DWORD] DisableServer
[DWORD] DisableServerBrowse
[DWORD] DisableClearConnections

Script Settings:

Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\Script

Values:
[DWORD] DisableRunScripts
[DWORD] DisableDisplayResults
[DWORD] DisableAutoClose
[DWORD] DisableLoginScript
[DWORD] DisableProfileScript
[DWORD] DisableVariables

NT Settings:

Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\NT Credentials

Values:
[DWORD] DisableUsername
[DWORD] DisableFrom
[DWORD] DisableWOFrom
[DWORD] DisableCommonNameParse

Dialup Settings:

Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login\Tab Settings\Dialup

Values:
[DWORD] DisableUseDialup
[DWORD] DisablePhonebookEntry
[DWORD] DisablePNPreview
[DWORD] DisableFrom

This information was tested and validated against the Novell Client version 4.83. Engineering has suggested that these registry values have been implemented since the 4.5 Novell Client for Windows NT.
