fact
Novell eDirectory 8.6 for NetWare 6
Novell eDirectory 8.6.1
Novell NetWare 6.0
Novell NetWare 5.1
symptom
The attribute table was not already initialized in ReadConfigFromDs.
Could not update server configuration, err = no such value (-602) "LDAP v3 for Novell eDirectory 8.6.1" v 10210.37 started.
change
Installed eDirectory 8.6.1 and now NLDAP is not responding to LDAP requests.
cause
The install of eDirectory 8.6.1 failed to correctly modify the LDAP Server and LDAP group object for the server. It also did not copy the new snapin or eDirectory 8.6.1.
note
Troubleshooting steps: Turn DSTRACE.NLM on by typing the following commands at the server console:
1. DSTRACE
DSTRACE -ALL
DSTRACE SCREEN ON
DSTRACE FILE ON
DSTRACE +LDAP
2. Toggle to the DSTRACE Console. Launch ConsoleOne from a workstation. Find the "LDAP Server - ServerName" object for the server that was upgraded to eDirectory 8.6.1 | Right Click on the "LDAP Server - ServerName" object | Choose Properties | On the General tab, click "Refresh NLDAP Server Now"
Look on the DSTRACE Console screen and you will see the following:
"LDAP v3 for Novell eDirectory 8.6.1" v10210.37 started
The attribute table was not already initialized in ReadConfigFromDS
Could not update server configuration, err = no such value (-602)
3. If the error message above shows on the DSTRACE Console then follow the steps below to correct the problem.
fix
Delete the LDAP Server and LDAP Group objects for the server and install ConsoleOne off the eDirectory 8.6.1 CD or download to get the correct snapin. Recreate the LDAP Server and LDAP group objects. NLDAP should now be functioning.
It is a possibility that the schema did not extend properly. Go to the server that holds the master replica of the root partition | Find the NetWare OS install CD for that server | mount it as a cdrom | load nwconfig | directory options | extend schema | point to the cdrom mounted volume:sys\system\schema\ldap.sch | Delete the LDAP server and Group Object again | recreate the objects | unload and re-load nldap
On NetWare 6 - If the above does not resolve the problem, delete the LDAP Server and LDAP Group objects, next type "UINSTALL EDIR" at the server console. Finally reinstall eDirectory 8.6.1. The install will note that the LDAP Server and LDAP Group Objects are missing and recreate them properly.
