fact

Novell NetWare 6.0

Novell iFolder 1.01

symptom

Error "Check user error 107"

Error "Login failed ... LDAP server down?"

Unable to login to the iFolder client.

Unable to login to the iFolder Administration

change

iFolder was re-installed on the server using a different port.

cause

The iFolder client is attempting to connect to the iFolder server on the wrong port.

The client is using an HTTP proxy to access the Internet.

fix

If the iFolder server is listening on a port other than 80, the port number will need to be specified in the server field on the iFolder client.  You may use either the DNS name for the server or the server IP address.  If the iFolder server is listening on port 52080 and the servers address is 10.1.1.1, the following would be correct.

10.1.1.1:52080  or servername.company.com:52080  (remember to choose the correct IPaddress/Name and port #)

** IMPORTANT ** You can also run into the same issue if you are trying to put in the secure port.  For example if you have 10.1.1.1:52443 you will receive the same problem.  The port has to be the unsecure port.  This does not mean that your user name and password are unsecure.  They are encrypted.

Internet Explorer configured to use an HTTP proxy for Internet access.  If a proxy is in use, the iFolder client uses the proxy settings in the windows registry and cannot connect to the iFolder server even if it is on the same subnet as the client.  This issue is resolved in the 1.02 version of the iFolder client. (NW6 Support Pack 1)

Proxies requiring authentication will cause this error regardless.  The workaround would be to disable proxy in Internet Explorer by choosing TOOLS -- INTERNET OPTIONS -- CONNECTIONS -- LAN SETTINGS  uncheck the use a proxy server check box.
